No one wants to walk into any business and find dirt, grime or a general lack of cleaning and maintenance. Whether you’re a restaurant, bar, nightclub, store, school or office building, there are some common places you can focus your cleaning efforts to keep your space in top shape and keep your customers and clients returning for more.
Cleaning Focus Areas
- Floors. They’re one the largest surface and most noticeable. No matter what type of flooring you have, it’s important to keep it clean, not only for appearances, but for safety purposes as well. Dirty floors, especially those without carpeting (i.e. tile, wood, cement, vinyl, etc.) can become slick, increase the risk of slip and fall injuries. Placing door mats inside and outside your doors will reduce the amount of dirt tracked in. It’s important to quickly clean up any spills or slick spots to reduce the dangers to your customers and staff.
- Restrooms. Surveys continually show the importance of a clean restroom for customer retention, especially in service and retail industries. Remember that it’s not just visible dirt that you need to clean. You should also focus on high-touch areas, such as faucets, stall door handles and locks and toilet flush handles. These areas, while they may look clean, could be harboring bacteria that can spread anything from the cold or flu to more serious illnesses.
- High-Visibility Areas. We’ve all hear the saying (or variations of the saying) “you only have one chance to make a good first impression.” That’s true in our personal lives and how we present our places of business. Overflowing trash cans, built up dust and dirty, streaky windows all turnoffs that could potentially keep customers out of your business. Make sure to keep entry areas, waiting rooms, meeting spaces and other high-visibility areas clean and well maintained.
At the end of the day, appearance is a big factor when people consider doing business with your company, no matter what the industry.
